What Does "Toniiq" Mean

Toniiq (pronounced "Tonique") is an homage to two fathers of modern botanical chemistry, Joseph Pelletier and Joseph Bienaimé Caventou. The french duo were pioneers in the use of mild solvents to isolate active ingredients from plants.

In 1820, both Josephs isolated pure quinine (the active ingredient in tonic water) from the bark of the Andean cinchona tree, which became the first extracted bioactive compound ever used successfully against an infectious disease. Quinine quickly took off around the world and cemented itself in history as what many believe to be the very first modern medicine.

From its use by imperial British soldiers as an antimalarial cocktail, to its ancient roots in the greek word “tonikos” (meaning “invigorating"), Toniiq is meant to bridge the traditional and modern, defining itself as a link between the natural and the scientific.

Our Mission

Toniiq’s singular focus is to craft exceptional products with the highest levels of purity and concentrated potency.

Toniiq was established in Michigan in 2013, with the objective of disrupting the white-labeling model that makes up the majority of the supplement industry. “White-label” supplements are relabeled or rebranded supplements from big-box manufacturers. They are ready-made formulas sold to brands, who simply add their own label to it and market it as their own.

While there is nothing technically “wrong” with white-label supplements, they rarely (if ever) contain the highest possible levels of purity or concentrations of bioactive compounds, as the white label model hinges on readily available ingredients in bulk quantities.

Every Toniiq product is sourced and formulated by... us. We deal directly with individual ingredient suppliers for each of our products, be they a generational family farm in the Andes or a bleeding-edge biotech lab in Tokyo.

We are direct-to-consumer in the truest sense; no cost-inflating middleman, no extravagant advisory boards, no ostentatious marketing campaigns. Instead, 50+ collective years of industry experience and frenzied word-of-mouth has taken us from what was just a dream in Michigan a decade ago, to over 2 million+ bottles sold in 30+ countries since 2020.

Now in 2022 we’ve set out to radically redefine product transparency in supplements, by providing fully published and traceable third-party testing reports for every batch we produce.
